In a recent interview, Rosie O’Donnell gushed about her 10-year-old daughter telling her that “gender is infinite,” adding, “When your child tells you who they are, believe them.”
O’Donnell told NBC Chicago’s Matt Rodriguez that her daughter Clay told her “gender is infinite” and she had a hard time remembering to use “they/them” pronouns when speaking to her, adding that she even got a tattoo to remind her.
See below:
“She told me, they told me, she likes them/them. I got it tattooed to remember. And every time I say ‘her,’ she says, ‘Your tattoo isn’t working.’ I say, ‘I get it, clever one.'” The Rosie O’Donnell Show Star said.
O’Donnell continued.
But yeah, after we had a discussion about non-binary, they said to me, “Mom, do you think you’re non-binary?” And I said, “I really don’t think so.” And I said, “When I was a kid, everyone used the word tomboy, and it wasn’t an insult. Nobody thought it was weird or bad to be a tomboy. I was good at sports. I was president of my high school class. I was homecoming queen, prom queen, I was very tomboyish. I was on every team.” And she said, “But do you think you’re a girl or a boy?” And I said, “I definitely think I’m a girl.” And I said, “I’m gay. Gay is someone who is attracted to people of the same sex, but isn’t confused about who they are, their gender.”
Well, she said — they said — to me, “Mom, there are some kids in my class who don’t even know their own gender.” And I said, like an idiot, “Next time you take a bath, tell them to look down. If it’s a hot dog, it’s a boy. If it’s not, it’s a girl.” And she said — they said, “Mom, that’s their gender. It’s a binary. I’m talking about their gender. And gender is infinite.”
“Gender is infinite? Where does a 10-year-old learn that word?” O’Donnell asked. “I have no idea. So I said to her, ‘Where did you find that?’ And she said, ‘I just know something.'”
“It’s the same as people knowing you’re gay,” Rodriguez interjected. O’Donnell replied, “Exactly. It’s the same thing.”
“And I don’t know where this journey will take them,” O’Donnell added. “I’m rooting for them to discover what their path in life is and how they want to feel connected and happy.”
Rodriguez went on to say that it’s “okay” to struggle with pronouns “as long as you’re doing everything in good faith,” with O’Donnell agreeing, “as long as you correct yourself.”
O’Donnell continued.
And sometimes Clay says to me, “Mom, I told you I could call you Clay, and I was like, ‘I’m trying, baby, I’m trying.'” The hardest part was not calling her ‘baby girl,’ because that’s what I always said. And then about six months ago, she said to me, “I don’t like that, because I’m not a girl or a boy.” And I said, “Okay, okay.”
“When your child tells you about themselves, believe them,” O’Donnell urged.
As Breitbart News reported, research strongly suggests that social contagion is a factor in why teens and young adults identify as transgender.
