Rosie O'Donnell 'Shocked' by Trump's Question to FIFA World Cup President Regarding U.S. Player's Red Card

O’Donnell Reacts to Trump’s FIFA Intervention

Rosie O’Donnell expressed her shock over President Trump’s request for FIFA president Gianni Infantino to overturn the red card issued to American player Folarin Balogun during the match against Belgium. She described the situation as “disgusting,” emphasizing, “He can get away with almost anything.”

O’Donnell criticized Trump’s involvement, stating, “The fact that he called FIFA to have the penalty erased for Team USA was surprising! I didn’t think it was a red card anyway!” She remarked that it was odd for Trump to act as if he were a referee.

“When did he gain the authority to alter rules or the so-called goalposts?” the 64-year-old continued, voicing concern about the broader implications of his actions. “There are many instances of corruption that we aren’t even aware of.”

She noted that American fans and teams were also taken aback by the president’s actions. “It’s strange that [Balogun] didn’t just refuse to play that game, and the coach didn’t say, ‘We’re not going to succeed.’ It felt like everyone just accepted it, which surprised me,” she added.

O’Donnell further stated, “I’m horrified and disgusted that he can get away with almost anything.”

The actress, who moved to Ireland from the U.S. last year, reiterated her prior claims about the president being “mediocre.” She remarked, “He has failed at everything he’s ever attempted, and it’s appalling that he’s in charge of our country.”

“This is the most troubling period in our nation’s history, and if we want to remain a democratic republic, we need to address this soon,” she concluded.

Despite her critiques, O’Donnell has continuously posted about Trump on social media, sharing alarming opinions that include unfounded claims about possible violent actions affecting the midterm elections.

In a somewhat contradictory sentiment, she noted, “I don’t want to deal with the stress from his constant provocations,” even though she has returned to the U.S. multiple times after declaring she wouldn’t come back.
