Secretary of State Rubio Meets PM Modi in New Delhi

During a multi-day state visit to India, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

On Saturday, Rubio acknowledged the importance of the U.S.-India relationship, mentioning their discussions on various topics, including the Middle East situation, energy partnerships, and emerging technologies. He shared these thoughts on social media, emphasizing the ongoing collaboration between the countries.

“There’s a lot to work on with India; they’re a great ally and partner. We do a lot of good work with them, so this is an important trip,” Rubio had stated before embarking on this journey.

Saturday morning saw him visiting Mother House in Kolkata, the headquarters of Missionaries of Charity, which Mother Teresa established in 1950.

Expressing deep respect, Rubio stated, “Mother Teresa left a tremendous legacy of compassion and service. I was honored to visit the Missionaries of Charity today to pay homage to her legacy and to see the living example of the Catholic faith in action.”

Later that day, Rubio held talks with Modi, focusing on the U.S.’s confrontation with Iran, which President Donald Trump cited as a potential reason for not attending a family wedding. Rubio emphasized the U.S.’s commitment to ensuring Iran doesn’t disrupt global energy markets, asserting that U.S. energy products could help diversify India’s energy sources.

Interestingly, while India has been relying heavily on Russian crude oil due to cheaper prices amid ongoing sanctions, Rubio indicated the U.S. was eager to supply India with as much energy as they could utilize.

Modi expressed that he was pleased to welcome Rubio, noting their discussions about enhancing the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and addressing regional peace and security issues.

“India and the United States will continue to work closely for the global good,” Modi said.

Rubio also mentioned extended an invitation for Modi to visit the White House, representing the President’s enthusiasm for further collaboration.
