Marco Rubio on J.D. Vance’s Potential Candidacy
Recently, Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed his belief that Vice President J.D. Vance could be an excellent candidate for the Republican Party in the upcoming 2028 election.
During an appearance on My Views with Lala Trump, Rubio seemed to sidestep questions about his own presidential ambitions when asked if he envisioned his career moving “beyond the State Department.”
Instead of promoting himself, he chose to spotlight Vance, emphasizing that the Vice President is a strong contender for future GOP nominations.
“I think JD Vance is a great candidate… if he decides to do it,” Rubio stated. “He’s doing a great job as vice president. He’s a best friend, and I hope he’ll pursue that.”
Discussing his own political future, Rubio reaffirmed his dedication to being Secretary of State and his goal to complete his term in that role.
“I know it’s early, but I’m focused on my responsibilities here. As Secretary of State, I’m not really involved in political campaigns. There are rules that limit my participation in domestic politics,” he explained.
“I want to do this job. As long as the President wants me here, I’ll stay until January 2028,” he added.
Although Rubio’s bid for the presidency in 2016 didn’t succeed, he didn’t entirely close the door on future White House aspirations. Yet, he mentioned he would be content if his career culminated at the State Department.
“Honestly, you just don’t know what the future holds. I wouldn’t rule anything out. But serving in this presidency allows you to get things done at a meaningful pace. I can reflect on my public service and think, ‘I made an impact and served the country well,'” Rubio said. “If that becomes the peak of my career, I’d be quite satisfied. That’s where my focus is right now.”
