Rubio: Vance would make an excellent GOP candidate in 2028 if he chooses to pursue it

Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently expressed his belief that Vice President Vance could be a strong candidate for the Republicans in the upcoming 2028 election.

During an interview with Fox News on “My Views with Lala Trump,” Rubio sidestepped inquiries regarding his own presidential aspirations when prompted by the president’s daughter-in-law about whether his perspective was influenced by his position within the State Department.

“I think JD Vance is an excellent candidate… assuming he chooses to run,” Rubio mentioned in a Saturday interview.

“He performs admirably as vice president. He’s a close friend, and I sincerely hope he pursues that,” he added.

Rubio emphasized his commitment to his role as Secretary of State and mentioned he plans to serve a full term, which he acknowledged would likely preclude his own presidential run in 2028.

“I realize it’s early days, but as Secretary of State, I’m not really engaging in political maneuvers. There are regulations governing my involvement in domestic politics,” Rubio stated.

“I want to excel in this role. As long as the President permits me to remain in this position, I intend to stay until January 2028,” he continued.

Having assumed office in 2016, Rubio did hint that he might not completely dismiss the idea of running for the White House in the future; however, he indicated contentment if his public service reached its peak during his tenure at the State Department.

“Honestly, you don’t really know what the future has in store. It’s wise not to entirely close doors,” Rubio reflected. “But being here during this presidency allows you to accomplish things at the pace we’ve maintained over the last six months. I can look back at my public service with the sense that I made a meaningful impact, served the country positively.”

“I would be satisfied if that were the peak of my career,” Rubio concluded. “That’s where my focus lies for now, as we work on initiatives that we believe will yield long-term benefits.”
