Marco Rubio Engages in Talks with Raul Castro’s Grandson
Secretary of State Marco Rubio is reportedly conducting secret discussions with Raul Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, the grandson of former Cuban president Raul Castro. These meetings are said to be taking place outside the formal channels of the Cuban government, according to various reports.
A senior official stated, “The U.S. government’s stance is clear: the regime must end.” However, he also noted that the specifics of the situation are uncertain, particularly with President Trump still weighing his options. Rubio continues to negotiate with Castro’s grandson.
It’s not just the discussions that are concerning; President Trump has remarked that Cuba is “on the verge of collapse,” particularly in light of the situation in Venezuela, where Maduro’s actions have had ripple effects.
In a recent warning, Miguel Díaz Canel, Cuba’s leader, highlighted that the nation is “close to bankruptcy,” which has compounded due to the U.S. limiting essential resources like food and fuel. The aftermath of nearly 70 years under one-party rule is evident—Cuba’s power infrastructure is in shambles, hospitals are without crucial supplies, and trash is accumulating in the streets.
Amidst this backdrop, the Trump administration has intensified its scrutiny of Cuba, especially following Maduro’s arrest. The administration is accusing Havana of collaborating with U.S. adversaries and terrorist factions.
The State Department has been contacted for further comments, while the White House has indicated that Havana must undertake serious reforms. Referring to Cuba’s internal turmoil, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt remarked, “They are a regime that is collapsing. Their country is falling apart. It would be in their best interest to enact significant changes soon. We’ll have to see how they respond.”
