Rudy Giuliani whined in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday that the judge was unfairly “favoring him” after he failed to fudge a January trial date in his $148 million defamation lawsuit. There was a big fuss.
“Everything you suggested is against me!” Giuliani, the disbarred former Southern District attorney, yelled at Judge Louis Lehman during a hearing in Manhattan federal court.
The 80-year-old former New York mayor has asked Lehman why he hasn't yet transferred ownership of Giuliani's 1980 Mercedes convertible to two Georgia election officials he vilified after the 2020 presidential election. After questioning it, Tamper threw a tantrum.
“Your client is a talented man. He was the U.S. attorney for this district,” Lehman told Giuliani's lawyers. “The idea is that you can't apply for a certificate of title,” he continued — before Giuliani interrupted.
“I applied!” Giuliani complained. “What should I do? Make it yourself. Your point about me not being committed is completely wrong.”
The embattled former mayor then accused the judge of unfairly characterizing his claims of restricted access to assets as telling the court he was “needy.”
“I'm not poor… everything I have is tied up,” Giuliani claimed, adding without providing evidence that someone had placed a “cease and desist order” on his Social Security account. .
The judge then warned him not to speak again.
“A client can represent themselves as a lawyer or act as a lawyer,” Lehman said, referring to the legal term self-representation. “He can't do both.”
The Jan. 16 trial will decide whether Mr. Giuliani can continue living in his Palm Beach, Fla., condo and whether Mr. Giuliani must hand over a Yankees World Series ring that he claims was a gift for his son, Andrew. It is determined whether the He sued election officials while appealing a Washington, D.C., court ruling against him in a defamation case.
