Runner Dies After Collapsing At Finish Line Of Halloween Half Marathon At Disneyland

A runner suddenly died after crossing the finish line of Disneyland's Halloween half marathon, with a California “heat wave” being widely believed to be the cause.

But some have expressed skepticism about the heatwave claims.

Bobby Graves, 35, who goes by his middle name, Caleb, safely reached the finish line of the race on Sunday but collapsed moments later, clutching his chest.

Anaheim Police Sergeant Matt Sutter said: Los Angeles TimesHe explained that a volunteer managed to catch him before he collapsed.

“The race started at 5 a.m. I don't know what starting wave he was in, but he crossed the finish line around 7 a.m.,” Sutter said. “As soon as he crossed the finish line he started clutching his chest. One of the workers noticed and ran over to him and supported him before he collapsed.”

“Fire and rescue personnel were on scene,” Sutter told People magazine. “It couldn't have been any better for emergency responders to arrive on scene,” he added.

The day before her death, Graves said in a TikTok video that she had gone out walking her dog and passed out from heatstroke.

“I really hope I can complete the race tomorrow morning,” he says at the end of the video.

Sutter said Graves had no health issues prior to his untimely death. Times The coroner's office is still investigating what caused his cardiac arrest.

In 2023 and 2024, Graves, a long-distance runner, could complete a marathon and a half marathon at Disney World.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and our hearts are with Caleb's family and loved ones during this difficult time,” Disneyland Resort spokeswoman Jessica Good said in an emailed statement. KTLA.

Graves had more than 18,000 followers on TikTok, where he frequently used the platform to document his trips to Disney and Universal theme parks, offer helpful tips for runners, and share details about his daily life.

In 2019, another runner died during a runDisney event when he collapsed while running the Walt Disney World Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend 5K.
