Rupert Everett, at 66, recently shared that he was “dismissed” from “Emily In Paris” without any clear explanation, as reported in an interview with Vanity Fair.
“It was a tragedy for me. I couldn’t cope, so I ended up sleeping for two weeks,” he expressed in the interview published on Tuesday.
He recounted how he had worked on a scene in the latest season and was told, “I’ll talk to you next year.” But that call never came; instead, he was let go. “Show business can be incredibly tough,” he observed.
While Everett emphasized that he was fired, a source from the production claimed that he was simply hired as a guest star and that his character’s storyline had concluded.
Netflix was approached for comments on the matter.
Everett portrayed interior designer Giorgio Barbieri in season four of “Emily In Paris.” His character was an old friend of Emily’s boss, Silvie Grato, played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu.
Leroy-Beaulieu reminisced about their time working together, noting, “I had so much fun with Rupert. His energy is wild. It was such a fantastic experience.”
If Everett is seeking new opportunities, his co-star from “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” Dermot Mulroney, mentioned he has a storyline idea for a sequel to the classic ’90s romantic comedy.
This isn’t the first time Everett has voiced his dissatisfaction with the show. “Emily In Paris” debuted in 2020 and garnered 58 million views in its opening year. The series follows Emily Cooper, an American navigating her career and romance in Paris.
Recently, Lucas Bravo, who plays chef Gabriel, shared some thoughts about the show in a French publication. He seemed to wonder if the series has been lacking in “intelligence” or “inspiration.”
“Life’s too short,” he said, expressing hesitation about spending months on a project that doesn’t spark inspiration. “I don’t want to be part of something that doesn’t respect the intelligence of the audience,” he added.
Despite his concerns, Bravo is confirmed to return for Season 5, although the premiere date is yet to be announced.
