An extensive Russian airstrike hit southern Ukraine on Saturday, resulting in at least one civilian death.
The assault, which occurred overnight, left at least 30 people injured, including three children. This attack targeted an area partially occupied by Russian forces, causing explosions in several cities within the Zaporidia region, as noted by Governor Ivan Fedorov.
The Kremlin deployed a significant number of drones and missiles, totaling 537 Shahed drones, eight North Korean ballistic missiles, and 37 cruise missiles, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
While Ukrainian forces managed to intercept the majority of these airstrikes, some still got through—five missiles and 24 drones struck residential areas, igniting fierce blazes.
This assault followed a deadly airstrike in central Kiev on Thursday, marking one of the most lethal incidents since the start of Russia’s invasion. That attack claimed 25 lives, including four children, and affected EU diplomats as well.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned Moscow’s actions, expressing outrage at what he described as “absolute disregard for humanity” and urged for increased international sanctions. He emphasized that without global pressure, the conflict would likely persist.
“We faced two major attacks this week,” Zelensky stated on X. “These actions underline that the war will not conclude without sustained pressure on Russia. Putin seems to only manipulate his allies, using time to undermine the potential for sanctions.”
He reiterated his commitment to ending the war, asserting, “The focus should remain on pushing Russia to conclude this conflict.”
