Russia Launches Drone Strikes on Odesa, Kills at Least Three

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A Russian drone crashed into an apartment complex in the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa overnight, killing three people, regional governor Ole Kiper announced Saturday.

Eight more people were injured, authorities said.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that the Odessa region was attacked by eight drones, seven of which were shot down by air defenses.

According to the country’s military, air defense forces across Ukraine shot down 14 of the 17 drones fired at Ukraine.

Kharkiv region governor Ole Sinievov reported Saturday morning that more than 20 settlements in eastern Ukraine had been hit by Russian artillery and mortars, and that high-rise buildings in the region’s capital, also known as Kharkiv, had been damaged by drone strikes.

There were no casualties, but three people suffered from “acute stress reactions,” the statement said.

The Kherson District Prosecutor’s Office announced that a 53-year-old man was killed by Russian military shelling in the partially occupied Kherson region on Saturday morning.

A drone crashed into an apartment building in St. Petersburg on Saturday morning, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported.

Six people received medical assistance after the explosion shook the building, the agency said, citing the city’s medical board press office.

Mash news site reported that the apartment building was attacked by Ukrainian drones. The Associated Press was unable to verify this claim.

The site posted a video that appeared to show the moment the apartment building was hit, showing a strong light engulfing one side of the building and debris flying into the air. Another video showed a car alarm going off.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has not commented on the incident.
