Russia Pledges to Repair Damaged Fighter Jets After Ukrainian Drone Strikes

On Thursday, Russia announced plans to fix fighter jets that sustained damage during a significant drone attack by Ukraine earlier this week. Officials asserted that while the jets are “damaged,” they have not been completely destroyed.

Deputy Minister Sergei Lyabukov made the remarks following Ukraine’s claim that it had neutralized 40 of Russia’s top bomber jets and surveillance aircraft in what was termed “Operation Spiders Web.” This operation involved a series of coordinated drone strikes that penetrated Russian territory.

In a state-run report, Lyabukov was quoted stating, “As the Ministry of Defense indicated, these aircraft were not destroyed, but were damaged. They will be repaired.” However, satellite imagery of airfields in Russia seems to reveal significant harm to the aircraft.

Ukrainian Attacks Continue

On the ground, a recent drone strike reportedly led to five casualties in Ukraine, following President Putin’s vow of retaliation over a communication with former President Trump.

Ukrainian authorities have shared footage showing aircraft ablaze after being hit by drones. U.S. officials estimated that about 20 fighter jets were struck during the operation, with 10 of those directly destroyed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky personally supervised the operation, which, according to sources, has been in planning for over 18 months. The White House later confirmed that the Trump administration was not informed beforehand about the strikes.

Recent Developments

In an additional series of events on Tuesday, Ukrainian security forces announced a substantial underwater explosion targeting the bridge linking Russia to Crimea. Zelensky stated that Russia executed a “savage strike” in the northeastern city of Smie, aiming to hit urban areas with rocket artillery.

Meanwhile, Trump revealed that he had a phone conversation with Putin, during which the Russian leader emphasized the necessity of a response to the drone attack.

As tensions rise, the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia showcases an evolving landscape, with both sides maintaining a narrative of strength and retaliation.
