A video released by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) on Monday depicts the tense moments after a Russian fighter jet flew dangerously close to a NORAD aircraft over the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). .
According to a statement NORAD sent to FOX News Digital, “an unprofessional air maneuver against our country's NORAD F-16” was carried out on September 23rd when it “conducted a routine professional interception against a Russian Tu-95 aircraft.” It is said that the incident occurred during the middle of the year.
NORAD, recent statementsstated that “ADIZ begins where sovereign airspace ends and is a defined international airspace that requires the immediate identification of all aircraft for national security.”
The video shows the moment an F-16 approaches a Russian Tu-95 fighter and a Russian Su-35 swoops in front of the NORAD fighter, apparently catching it by surprise.
Gen. Gregory Guyot, commander of the North American Defense Forces and commander of the U.S. Northern Command, condemned the dangerous actions, saying, “NORAD aircraft conducted a safe and disciplined interception of Russian military aircraft in the Alaska ADIZ. The conduct was unsafe, unprofessional, put everyone at risk, and has no place in the professional Air Force.”
