Russian Man Convicted in Assault Case Linked to Barron Trump
A Russian individual was found guilty in London on Wednesday for assaulting his girlfriend last year after Barron Trump informed the police about the incident, claiming he witnessed it during a video call from the U.S.
Matvei Rumyantsev, aged 22, was convicted following his admission that he felt jealous of his girlfriend’s friendship with Donald Trump’s 19-year-old son.
Barron Trump relayed to investigators that he made a late-night FaceTime call to a woman he had met online, and was taken aback when a shirtless man briefly answered the call.
“The video lasted maybe a second; I was on adrenaline,” Barron Trump mentioned. “Then, the camera shifted to the victim, who was in tears and speaking in Russian as she was being assaulted.”
The call abruptly ended, and Barron Trump immediately reached out to London police for assistance. During the call, he mentioned, “I don’t think details matter. She’s been hurt.” However, the dispatcher prompted him to provide clearer information for the sake of the victim’s help.
Authorities responded to the scene on January 18, 2025, and arrested Rumyantsev, who was working as a receptionist in London.
During the trial at Snaresbrook court, Rumyantsev was acquitted of charges related to rape and strangulation from that night, as well as another unrelated sexual assault charge from November 2024.
Despite this, a jury found him guilty of assault and attempting to obstruct justice after evidence revealed he sent a letter from prison asking the woman to withdraw her allegations.
Rumyantsev admitted jealousy toward Barron Trump but also claimed he felt pity for him, stating he believed his girlfriend had influenced him. The defense attorney questioned whether Barron Trump was aware of the woman’s relationship status and highlighted that only a few seconds of video are limited in how much can truly be understood.
Judge Benathan cautioned jurors to approach Barron Trump’s testimony with care since he did not testify in court or face cross-examination. The judge noted, “It’s uncertain whether he actually witnessed the assault or simply inferred it from the victim’s cries.”
Rumyantsev is set to be sentenced on March 27.
