Russian Attack in Dnipro Leaves Casualties
KYIV, Ukraine — Local authorities reported that at least five individuals lost their lives and 34 sustained injuries due to a Russian drone and missile strike on the city of Dnipropetrovsk. This information was relayed on Saturday.
Oleksandr Hanza, the official in charge of the Dnipropetrovsk region, indicated that four victims were discovered among the debris of a house that had been obliterated during the overnight assault.
Hanza mentioned in the Telegraph that the Russians had targeted Dnipropetrovsk and nearby towns for much of the night. The attacks resulted in multiple fires throughout Dnipro and caused damage to several apartments, stores, and homes, leading to 27 injuries.
Another strike in Dnipropetrovsk occurred on Saturday afternoon, claiming another life in the same neighborhood affected earlier. Reports from Hansa News Agency revealed that seven additional individuals were injured in this latest attack.
Meanwhile, in the southwest, two people were hurt during a nighttime drone raid in the Odesa region. Ole Kiper, the regional head, reported on Saturday that the attack damaged residential buildings as well as port facilities and vehicles in the southern area of the region.
In Russia, local officials indicated that a woman was killed and a man seriously hurt due to a Ukrainian military drone strike in the Belgorod border area.
After the overnight strikes, Romania’s Defense Ministry announced that remnants of a drone were discovered in a residential sector of Galași, which is close to the border with Ukraine. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from this incident.
Romania has frequently detected drone debris on its territory.
The overnight assault followed a prisoner exchange the previous day, where both Russia and Ukraine exchanged 193 military personnel. These exchanges have emerged as one of the few positive developments amid months of stalled U.S.-mediated discussions between Moscow and Kyiv. Five years into these talks, little progress has been made on critical issues hindering the resolution of Russia’s aggression.
In a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed Ukraine’s willingness to pursue peace talks with Russia in Azerbaijan. He stated, “We are already holding such discussions in Turkey and with our American partners in Switzerland. If Russia is ready for diplomacy, we are also ready for further negotiations in Azerbaijan.”
