Zelensky: We Record Every Russian Death and Injury

Remarks from Ukrainian President at NATO Summit

During this week’s NATO summit, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy made striking comments, asserting that Ukraine possesses video proof of every single one of the 30,000 Russian soldiers lost on the battlefield each month.

Zelenskiy stated that Ukraine is responsible for the “elimination” of 30,000 Russian troops every month, claiming comprehensive documentation of every death, injury, and capture. This assertion underscores the rapid advancements in technology, which have provided extensive data from the frontlines. With action cameras on soldier helmets and rifles, along with FPV drones equipped with compact cameras, modern warfare presents a new landscape of documentation, aside from traditional weaponry like the 155mm gun.

The Ukrainian president’s claims about Russian casualties align with a recent report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) based in Washington. The analysis suggested that by 2026, Russia might experience more than 30,000 casualties monthly. This staggering number has escalated the estimated total casualties from Russia’s invasion to around 2 million, divided into approximately 1.4 million Russians and 600,000 Ukrainians.

Zelenskiy emphasized that these assertions aren’t just mere boasts but a sad testament to the dire consequences of Russia’s war choices:

“In Ukraine, we are currently eliminating about 30,000 Russian soldiers every month as we defend our front-line positions in a fully justified war of self-defense… and we have video confirmation of all of them. The vast majority of attacks were carried out by drones.”

“To be honest, we aren’t proud of this. We share this to illustrate what modern wars entail—not wars that we initiate, but conflicts that we are compelled to fight.”

The CSIS report noted that Russia is recruiting around 27,000 new soldiers each month. If Zelenskiy’s figures are accurate, the Russian military may struggle to sustain these losses against their recruitment capability. The report further states that an estimated 90 percent of Russian casualties result from drone attacks rather than direct combat, indicating extremely high casualty rates for soldiers entering conflict zones.
