Texas DPS Apprehends 10 Illegal Aliens, Including One from Russia
A team from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) operating in the border area of Starr County detained 10 individuals who were attempting to illegally enter the United States. Notably, among those apprehended was a woman classified as a Special Interest Alien (SIA) from Russia. These efforts are part of Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s initiative, Operation Lone Star.
DPS spokesperson Lt. Chris Olivares shared photos on social media documenting the arrest of this group, who crossed the Rio Grande from Mexico into Starr County. The apprehension occurred during an anti-smuggling operation conducted near the border.
This Russian woman stands out, as U.S. Border Patrol designates Russian immigrants as “aliens of special interest.” In the images released by DPS, she appears to be carrying a laptop, which adds an intriguing element to the situation.
Following their arrest, the 10 individuals were handed over to Border Patrol agents for further processing. It’s likely that the Russian woman will be interviewed by either the FBI or the Department of Homeland Security before any deportation takes place.
Governor Abbott voiced concerns regarding SIAs during a recent visit to the Texas Republican National Convention in Houston, emphasizing the collaborative efforts between state and federal law enforcement to combat human smuggling and enhance border security.
“This cooperation showcases the dedication of both agencies to prevent unauthorized individuals from entering deeper into the U.S.,” Olivares remarked.
Interestingly, Border Patrol considers those who aren’t directly apprehended at the border as fugitives. A report indicated a 97% decrease in illegal escape attempts, yet the DPS continues to actively pursue illegal aliens who try to move further into the country.
Earlier in the week, Olivares shared a video showing a tractor-trailer loaded with a significant number of illegal aliens in Brooks County, Texas. The driver failed to comply with police commands and subsequently had to be stopped using a tire deflation device, which led to a fire breaking out in the vehicle.
After the driver halted the truck, officers removed him from the cab. He revealed that the trailer was filled with human cargo. Upon opening the trailer, officers discovered 39 illegal aliens being smuggled. They had to evacuate these individuals rapidly as the fire escalated, threatening to engulf the entire rig.
“This incident highlights the perilous tactics employed by human smugglers engaged in such criminal enterprises,” concluded Olivares.
