Russia's Attack on Apartment Building in Kharkiv, Ukraine Results in One Fatality

Bombing in Kharkiv and Ongoing Drone Attacks

KYIV, Ukraine — A Russian guided bomb hit an apartment building in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, on Saturday, resulting in at least one death and injuries to nine others, including a 6-year-old child, according to officials.

Mayor Ihor Telekhov reported on Telegram that rescuers extracted bodies from the debris several hours after the strike.

The attack targeted a low-rise apartment block in the Khorodnohirsky district early Saturday. Regional Administrator Ole Sinievov mentioned that at least nine individuals were hurt, with five needing hospitalization.

The night before, a drone attack also occurred in Kharkiv, where a civilian car was struck, leading to the death of a man and injuries to the woman driving, according to Sinievov.

Additionally, on Saturday evening, Russia launched guided bombs into Ukraine, targeting the outskirts of Sumy, as local administrator Oleh Frikhorov reported. A civilian man was killed, and around 20 homes sustained damage in this incident.

The Russian government has yet to issue any comment or acknowledgment regarding these attacks.

In terms of defensive actions, the Ukrainian Air Force stated that they managed to shoot down 92 out of 99 Russian drones that were deployed overnight, although seven still managed to strike three targets.

On the other side, Russian air defense successfully repelled a drone attack on a refinery in Tyumen, western Siberia. Governor Alexander Moore reported no damage to the facility, though employees had to be evacuated.

Ukraine has consistently aimed its drone attacks at Russian oil facilities, trying to curtail Russia’s revenue from the war and to exert pressure on the Russian populace regarding the ongoing invasion. Fuel shortages have surfaced in some regions as a result.

In one of the most significant drone offensives since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion over four years ago, Ukraine struck Moscow’s main oil refinery again on Thursday. This attack produced a large plume of smoke above the capital and disrupted numerous flights.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, their forces shot down 177 Ukrainian-made drones during the night, but it remains uncertain how many of those were indeed successful. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin noted that two drones were intercepted approaching Moscow.
