Ryan Lochte and Kayla Ray Reed Divorce Announcement

Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte has confirmed his divorce from his wife, Kayla Ray Reed, after seven years of marriage.

Lochte, a 12-time Olympic medalist, spoke out following Reed’s announcement on social media. He shared that this decision was “not easy” but felt necessary for both of their paths to peace and happiness.

“I want to acknowledge what Kayla has shared. The past year has led us to this difficult decision to end our marriage, which has been significant for both of us,” Lochte, 40, remarked.

He expressed gratitude for their life together and emphasized their shared love for their three children. “This wasn’t an easy choice, but I believe it’s the right one for both of us. I aim to focus on healing and navigating our future with respect as we move forward separately,” he added.

Reed also posted about their separation, noting that she made the choice at the beginning of the year after considerable thought and prayer. “I respect marriage profoundly, so this has been one of the most painful seasons of my life,” she shared. She felt hesitation in publicly discussing it until she was in a better place emotionally.

Reed filed for divorce on March 26, which she addressed two months later through her social media message. “Sometimes trials come unexpectedly, forcing us to make tough choices for the sake of our peace, our children, and our future,” she wrote.

She aims to live with authenticity, but also desires to keep parts of this journey private as they navigate these changes.

Lochte concluded his message by expressing gratitude for the support of family and friends as he and Reed adjust to this new chapter.

The pair married in 2018, two years after Lochte found himself embroiled in a significant controversy during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he mistakenly claimed he was robbed, leading to a suspension from competitive swimming.

Lochte thanked Reed for standing by him through that tumultuous time. “We’ve experienced ups and downs in this short time that many don’t face in two decades,” he reflected. They got engaged in 2016.
