A family in California reportedly left a popular seafood restaurant on Tuesday without settling a $500 bill.
Footage from the Captain’s Club in Sacramento captured six family members hastily exiting without paying for their meal.
Brandi, the restaurant’s manager, confirmed they dined and drank there and is currently working on filing a police report.
She mentioned that the restaurant experiences incidents of food theft “three to four times” each month, typically involving larger groups.
The restaurant’s team is trying to address these issues “as much as possible,” but this incident has brought the problem to light.
In a related social media post, a person with the username datgurl_nanabee seemed to flaunt the situation, stating that the theft wasn’t due to a lack of funds, as her followers know she can afford it.
“You all know I have the money to pay for it,” she remarked, while admitting to wrongdoing. “You guys are mad because you’re not me.” She went on to imply that their actions merely sparked further conversation.
Captain Crab promotes itself as a restaurant steeped in Cajun tradition, boasting dishes inspired by authentic Louisiana recipes.
The restaurant chain has branches in Sacramento, Clovis, Elk Grove, and Stockton, but it remains uncertain if any family members will face charges for their actions. In California, the offense of leaving without paying, termed “frauding an innkeeper,” is typically considered a misdemeanor if the amount involved is under $950.
