Southern California poker player reportedly tied up and stolen from in Las Vegas

A poker player from Southern California had a troubling experience when he was reportedly attacked by masked thieves at his Las Vegas Airbnb, where they made off with all his money.

Jared Greener, who lives in Huntington Beach, mentioned that he got back to his rental around 8 p.m. on Sunday after cashing in his World Series of Poker winnings, only to discover the robbers waiting for him.

In a series of posts on X, Greener described the frightening situation. He recounted, “After I finally broke the closer, I collected my payment from Summer and drove back to my Airbnb. When I walked in the door, two men were waiting there and immediately tackled me to the ground, tied me up, and took my backpack with all my rolls in it.”

The backpack held his money, which he stated was “literally everything.” He had withdrawn the cash in preparation for his return to Los Angeles.

He mentioned that he was restrained for some time as he attempted to escape but eventually managed to free himself and asked a neighbor to call 911. “Fortunately, I am physically unharmed. This was the most terrifying and traumatic experience of my life. All my money is gone,” he expressed.

Greener detailed that the suspects, described as two Black men, threatened to kill him if he moved. He also noted that it seemed the intruders had some prior knowledge of the rental property.

“These people knew the door code to my Airbnb and were waiting for me inside, and neighborhood surveillance cameras showed they arrived at the Airbnb 10 minutes before I did,” he wrote.

He was able to wriggle free after about 15 minutes. Once released, he rushed to a neighbor’s place to make the emergency call.

Greener suspects that someone may have followed him after he collected his winnings at the World Series of Poker, which took place at the connected Paris Las Vegas and Horseshoe Las Vegas locations on the Strip. He remarked, “Someone may have been watching me on @wsop and knew I was on my way home with cash. Las Vegas detectives are currently investigating.”

Originally from Provo, Utah, Greener now lives in Huntington Beach and is recognized for his participation in high-stakes live tournaments and major cash games in California and Las Vegas.

As for his achievements, Greener has earned a total of $3,348,485 in live tournament winnings, ranking him 862nd on the all-time money list and 417th among American players, according to reports. He has made over 150 cashes in live tournaments, won three regional and circuit event titles, one World Series of Poker circuit ring, but does not own any WSOP gold bracelets, having accumulated $1,723,561 in WSOP earnings.
