Sadie Robertson Shares Harrowing Experience with Baby Daughter
Sadie Robertson opened up about a frightening incident involving her baby daughter, Kit, who experienced suffocation and temporarily stopped breathing.
On Saturday, the 28-year-old former star of “Duck Dynasty” shared this distressing event in an Instagram post. “Talking about this is difficult in real life, let alone on social media, but I feel it’s important to share because I genuinely believe that awareness can save lives,” she wrote.
Robertson expressed her gratitude for Kit’s recovery and highlighted the role of faith during the traumatic episode. “I’m currently dealing with waves of anxiety from this experience. I’m taking a break from social media and leaning on my family and amazing team for support as I try to regain my sanity,” she added.
She detailed the event, aiming to raise awareness for similar emergencies that other parents might face. “This week, Kit was sitting in her high chair having a snack while I was finishing up dinner when she began to choke,” Robertson explained. “In just seconds, I realized how serious it was. When she stopped breathing, my mom quickly pulled her from the high chair and into my arms.”
“Everyone jumped into action and began praying,” she continued. “My mom called 911 while I started CPR and we moved the other kids downstairs.”
Robertson emphasized her instinctive reaction, drawing from both her training and her faith to assist her daughter. “I’m someone who likes to be prepared for emergencies, so I’ve watched various training videos, hoping I’d never have to use that knowledge,” she wrote. “But in that moment, it felt like my body just knew what to do. I felt guided, saying out loud, ‘What should I do?’ and immediately began to follow through.”
After completing CPR, Kit began coughing and breathing again just as the paramedics arrived. “It was really scary, but I felt God’s presence guiding me,” she said.
Robertson rode in the ambulance with her daughter, still shaken but filled with gratitude. She noted that her husband, Christian Huff, pointed out signs of hope, such as a rainbow appearing over the ambulance during their drive to the hospital. Kit ended up recovering fully after an overnight observation.
“After a few hours, she charmed the nurses and is back to being healthy and happy,” Robertson said. “I’m sharing this to encourage everyone to learn what to do in an emergency; it all unfolded so fast, and I’m just thankful I was able to act quickly!”
She reflected on the importance of faith and preparation when it comes to parenting. “We have to trust God with our children. We can’t control their breaths, and we shouldn’t live in fear… Understanding both the spiritual and practical dimensions of emergencies can be invaluable.”
In her post, Robertson included a heartwarming video of Kit sleeping on her chest and referred to the situation as a “miracle.”
Robertson and Huff are currently featured in the second season of the “Duck Dynasty” reboot, titled “Duck Dynasty: The Revival,” which debuted on March 7. The show captures the entire Robertson family’s journey, including Robertson and Kit’s pregnancy experience.
In a recent interview, the couple shared how the arrival of their third child has expanded their marriage. Robertson remarked that the experience forced her to drop her “brave face.”
The reality star, who joined “Duck Dynasty” at age 14, mentioned how she grew up in front of cameras. She reflected, “It was easy to just switch it on for the cameras. You could smile and say you were okay. But with three kids? I feel like it’s hard to pretend.”
“There are times I show up covered in mess from the kids, and I think, ‘Well, here we are,’” she added. “This year has taught us that you can be genuine and still be loved, without needing to appear polished.”
