Tyler Schau Takes the Helm as Saints’ Starting Quarterback

Tyler Schau, a rookie with the New Orleans Saints, is preparing for his first career start as quarterback, stepping in for Spencer Rattler earlier this week. It’s a significant moment for him, to say the least.

On Thursday, he shared some thoughts about how his wife, Jordan, reacted to the news. Jordan is quite the athlete herself, playing college soccer for the Oregon Ducks. She seems to match his competitive spirit, which is pretty interesting.

“She’s been a huge part of this journey,” he mentioned. “From college to the draft process, she’s been involved every step of the way. It felt good, but she’s really a competitor. When she heard the news, she just said, ‘Good luck and win.’” He added, though, that she wasn’t exactly thrilled. “Neither am I, honestly. It’s just one of those things—we’ve got to focus on winning. We could have played better in the last game against the Buccaneers.”

The Saints, currently struggling with a record of 1-7, are hoping to turn things around under head coach Kellen Moore. The quarterback situation hasn’t been ideal with Rattler, so this change comes at a critical juncture in the season.

Schau was drafted in the second round and has a diverse college background, having played at Oregon, Texas Tech, and Louisville. He’s also one of the older rookies in this draft class at age 25. While he has seen action in two games this season, he really got a chance to shine last week, completing 17 of 30 passes for 128 yards and one interception.

Looking ahead, the Saints are gearing up for a matchup against the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday. So, it’s a pivotal moment, not just for Schau but for the team as a whole. Can they pull off a win? Only time will tell.
