The article argues that the Trump campaign's strategy appeals to “ugly, mean people with a message of resentment” and “mean men who would rather complain about 'wokeness' than take responsibility for their own failures,” and that Emhoff is “galvanizing the incel-leaning online right by being a Brooklyn hipster who rejects boring conservative rules about how women should dress and behave.”

The essay argues that “excessive pandering to creepy people” poses “real risks” for the Trump campaign, and suggests that right-wing criticism of Emhoff is indicative of the fact that they simply “can't admit that she's cute.”
