San Diego County Sheriff's Office looked into a reported sexual assault involving Phil Mickelson at a golf club

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office informed the California Post on Thursday that they are looking into allegations involving Phil Mickelson, who is accused of inappropriate behavior with a woman at a golf club in Rancho Santa Fe earlier this year.

A spokesperson from the SDCSO stated that they are “trying to gather all evidence to support the claims of sexual assault” regarding Mickelson and the female employee at The Farms Golf Club.

However, they noted that no formal reports of sexual assault have been filed at the club and that “at this time, we have found no evidence that an assault occurred.”

“The Sheriff’s Office will definitely investigate further if additional evidence or information comes forward,” the spokesperson explained. “Anyone with knowledge about these incidents is encouraged to reach out to the Sheriff’s Office.”

Reports suggest that Mickelson allegedly engaged in “non-consensual and inappropriate physical contact” with a woman inside The Farms clubhouse this spring. Following an investigation by the employee’s superior, the three-time Masters champion was expelled from the club.

Mickelson, who hails from San Diego, has strong connections to the club, routinely playing there and using it as practice for major tournaments, according to Golf Digest.

Though Mickelson has yet to make any public comments, his defamation attorney, Tom Clair, has stated that there’s “a tremendous amount of misinformation circulating” regarding the situation.

Claire went on to say, “While Phil is fully dedicated to supporting his family’s privacy, he has hired a defamation lawyer and intends to address all publications and personal sales of speculation and false rumors.”

Mickelson, married to his wife Amy for three decades, has been absent from professional golf since February, when he revealed he needed to take time off for family reasons.
