San Francisco minors, as young as 12, caught allegedly shoplifting over $84K of merchandise: police

A group of juvenile delinquents as young as 12 were arrested on suspicion of committing a series of robberies across San Francisco and amassing $84,000 in stolen goods, police said.

Authorities have arrested eight juvenile retail store suspects believed to be responsible for 23 incidents at various Walgreens stores, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) said. This group included 18-, 12-, 14-, and 15-year-olds.

Authorities have managed to connect a series of robberies that have plagued the Bay Area since July.

Police identified the oldest suspect as Brandon McClain, 18, who was arrested on suspicion of grand larceny and retail theft. Police said the suspect was also arrested earlier this month on suspicion of robbing a 15-year-old boy.

According to Fox 11, the 12-year-old boy from San Francisco was charged with assault, robbery, burglary, grand larceny, organized retail theft and petty larceny.

The other suspects, ages 14 and 15, were charged with various theft offenses.

According to SFPD, authorities said one incident involved an assault on a store employee, and the victim suffered a “severe head injury.”

In the Sept. 29 robbery, juveniles allegedly ransacked the store and stole $15,000 worth of merchandise. A few hours later, the group returned for another attack and stole another $12,000 worth of items, police said.

On Aug. 18, the suspects entered another Walgreens store and stole more than $6,500 worth of merchandise. During the robbery, one of the suspects jumped over the front counter and stole the cash register, police said.

In another disturbing incident, police said masked suspects during the July raid gathered outside a Walgreens store, where employees recognized them as thieves and called police. The suspect allegedly forced the door open on the employee and stole more than $1,300 worth of merchandise.

Detectives with the SFPD Organized Robbery and Retail Crimes Unit reviewed the incident and were able to connect the incidents.

Police deciphered similarities in the suspect's description and modus operandi (MO).
