Jacqueline Fielder Set to Return to Work
A member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, who was unexpectedly placed on leave earlier this year, is set to return next Monday, according to her colleagues.
Supervisors Myrna Melgar and Rafael Mandelman mentioned that Jacqueline Fielder intends to come back earlier than her previously announced return date of June 30.
Fielder, who represents the 9th District and is known for her progressive stance, began her unexpected leave in late March. She initially took some absences and then publicly stated her need to focus on improving her health.
In March, her office responded to rumors about a potential resignation, stating, “I look forward to returning to stable health so I can carefully and responsibly consider my options.” A few days later, her staff clarified that she was not planning to resign but would be stepping back from daily management for a three-month recovery period.
Her district includes areas like Bernal Heights, Portola, and Mission.
Fielder’s decision to take time off has drawn attention, coinciding with an ongoing city attorney investigation into a leaked internal memo from her office.
This memo reportedly discusses potential legal issues relating to the RESET Center, a city-run facility meant for those seeking alcohol-free environments.
Interestingly, around the same time she went on leave, one of her legislative aides departed. However, her chief of staff has dismissed any notions that her staff was involved in the leak.
The investigation is still active, and meanwhile, the Mission District continues to face challenges such as homelessness and drug-related issues.
