Sanctuary Policies Are Behind 'What We Are Experiencing on the Streets Right Now'

During Thursday’s NewsNation Live broadcast, Chicago Mayor Raymond Lopez commented on the challenges many cities face, suggesting that sanctuary policies in places like Chicago and Los Angeles have contributed to the current situation, which has prompted the federal government to pursue illegal immigrants more vigorously.

Lopez stated, “You have to understand that since 1987, the immigration system has been fundamentally broken. Both political parties have found ways to sidestep the front door and effectively use backdoor methods to enter the U.S. This has to change. However, we must also acknowledge that there are individuals brought here by their parents, the so-called dreamers, who are law-abiding and deserve attention and support—something that Donald Trump has indicated he would endorse. At the same time, we need to face the reality that around 15 million people have been poorly vetted and are now spread across the country due to actions taken by the Biden-Harris administration. I believe addressing this situation should be President Trump’s top priority. When asylum claims are proven to be invalid, those cases need to be reviewed and deportation orders acted upon. We must draw clear distinctions between these individuals and others who have stayed here, realizing that the proposal to simply deport everyone isn’t feasible.”

He added, “When cities led by Democrats, like New York, enforce their sanctuary policies yet still arrest non-citizens for serious crimes, as they do in New York, we should be turning them over because that’s what’s expected.”
