Sanders acknowledges that the Democratic Party poses a risk to democracy in a podcast discussion.

Sanders Agrees with Comedians on Democratic Process Issues

Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont shared his views with comedians Andrew Schultz and Akash Singh on how the Democratic process seems to have been sidelined by the party. Schultz, during his podcast “Flagrant,” expressed his feelings about how, in recent elections, Democrats have essentially stripped constituents of their voice in the presidential selection process.

“It felt like the Democrats have completely removed the Democratic process from its constituents,” Schultz noted, adding that the constant focus on Republican attempts to undermine democracy has overshadowed issues within the Democratic Party itself.

Sanders found common ground with Schultz, stating, “There is no discussion here.” Currently, Sanders is on a “Battle Oligarchy” tour alongside Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, which has drawn significant crowds.

During the podcast, Schultz revealed he felt he had taken a nomination away from Sanders back in 2016. “It broke my heart when you supported them,” he admitted, referring to the Democratic establishment.

Sanders reflected on the limited choices voters often face, saying, “In the world I live in, you have options… but would it be Hillary Clinton? Or Donald Trump? Not exactly a great choice.” He acknowledged concerns about whether the Democratic Party has become a threat to democracy itself.

When Singh mentioned the ongoing lack of a fair primary since 2008, Sanders responded affirmatively, agreeing that it poses a threat to democratic integrity. “I’m proudly independent,” he concluded, reinforcing his stance outside of the traditional party framework.
