Sen. Bernie Sanders, R-Idaho, said Sunday that it is “very difficult” for most Americans, especially young people, to get “excited” about what's happening in the world as President Biden seeks reelection. He said he was deaf.
Anchor Jake Tapper told Sanders on CNN's “State of the Union” that Biden has “severely undermined his standing” among young progressives who have criticized the U.S. position on the Israel-Hamas war. I asked. Sanders said most people are likely to continue to support Biden, but many remain concerned about his handling of the ongoing conflict.
He also said that former President Trump, the leading candidate in the Republican primary, is “one of the most dangerous political figures in modern American history.”
“So I think people are ultimately going to rally around Biden. But there's no question: It's very difficult for young people, and for most Americans, what's going on right now. I think you're excited about it. [The] The president has to change course.”
Sanders also called on Biden to follow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's concerns about “indiscriminate bombing” in Gaza.
“[Biden] Sanders has repeatedly called on Netanyahu to change course. “Prime Minister Netanyahu just yesterday said, 'No, we're going to keep doing what we're doing.' It's unacceptable. Giving away billions of dollars to a country that ignores his wishes and violates international law. You can't donate.”
“So I hope the president sticks to his concerns and says to Prime Minister Netanyahu, 'This is unacceptable.' We're not going to get a dime from the United States unless we fundamentally change course,” Sanders said. he added.
