Sanders: Trump chairing Kennedy Center 'a little bit weird'

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) questioned President Trump's intentions after successfully chairmaning the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.

“I'm worried that there's something real. It's a little weird. It's a little weird that the US president is now head of the Kennedy Center,” Sanders told News Nation in an interview Thursday.

The Vermont Senator suggested that the move is a consolidation of power that is not interested in culture.

Trump's decision to remove 18 Biden administration appointees from the Center's board, including former chairman David Rubenstein, sparked a significant response, causing some celebrities to flee the post after the move .

“You know, we've got other people who know a little about culture, and we probably have even more than the president,” Sanders said.

“But now, what is clearly happening in this country, every day, [Elon] Masks with President Trump will empower more and more people, and in many cases become people with huge amounts of money,” he added.

The president said he would use his chairman to change his performance on stage without joining the center.

“Last year, the Kennedy Center features a drug show that targets our youths specifically, which stops. The Kennedy Center is an American gem and the brightest on stage from our nation. It must reflect the stars. Trump wrote in the Social Post of Truth.

After the announcement, Deborah F. Lutter, the centre's president, announced her departure.

“Like our democracy itself, artistic expression must be nurtured, nurtured, prioritized and protected,” Lutter said in a statement.

“It's not a passive effort. In fact, there is no clear indication of American democracy in the workplace as much as our artists, the works they produce, and the “right to participate actively” of our audience. ”
