Santos: ‘I’ll Accept Any Reduction or Mercy the President Wants to Offer’

George Santos, the former New York Republican House member, has pleaded guilty to charges of fraud and identity theft, which could lead to a prison sentence exceeding seven years.

He made history in 2022 by becoming the first openly gay Republican to win a House seat, representing New York’s third district as a non-resident.

According to a statement from the Biden administration, Santos admitted to filing a false FEC report, embezzling from campaign donors, improperly using credit cards, committing identity theft, fraudulently obtaining unemployment benefits, and lying to the House.

In a recent episode of Piers Morgan’s YouTube show “Uncensored,” Santos expressed a desire for leniency, suggesting he would accept any form of clemency the president might offer.

During an emotional interview, he reiterated his appeal for pardon and argued that his sentence is politically charged and excessively harsh for a first-time offender.

His legal team plans to seek formal leniency, pointing to what they believe are politically motivated charges against him, similar to actions taken against Trump.

“I hope the president considers my request; I’m facing over seven years for what I see as a harsh consequence for someone with no prior offenses in the political arena,” he stated.

Santos has already prepared necessary documents to formally request support from the White House ahead of his expected prison term beginning in July.

His troubles began when discrepancies about his background emerged during the campaign. Following escalating ethics scandals, the House voted 311–114 in 2023 to expel him.

“I truly believe this decision was unjust,” he remarked. “There was a considerable amount of political influence in the outcome.”

Recently, President Trump granted a pardon to a former Republican state lawmaker in Tennessee serving time for campaign finance offenses.

“God bless America, despite the injustices faced by me, President Trump, and others,” the former state senator shared on social media.

Santos also criticized former U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland during his conversation with Morgan.

Trump has similarly condemned Garland, claiming that the Justice Department has been weaponized against him and his supporters.

Garland has faced accusations of being lenient on investigations regarding Hunter Biden while being more aggressive toward conservative individuals. Critics point to disparities in how protests are handled, citing a memo from Garland directing the FBI to address threats against school board members, which many believe unfairly targets conservative parents concerned about school policies.

“Merrick Garland has illustrated the worst aspects of political dishonor as attorney general for our country,” Santos opined.
