Sara Haines criticizes Newsom's Trump-style approach to social media on 'The View'

Criticism of Governor Newsom’s Social Media Strategy

Sarah Haynes, a co-host on “The View,” recently expressed her critiques regarding California Governor Gavin Newsom’s social media tactics reminiscent of former President Trump. She argued that Newsom’s approach, which she described as “playing someone else’s game,” does not effectively advance the party or counter Trump.

Haynes acknowledged that while Newsom has expanded his audience through podcasts and social media, her allegiance has shifted toward other Democratic figures, like Maryland Governor Wes Moore. “I really support him,” she mentioned, also praising the directness of Senator Elissa Slotkin and Representative Sarah McBride. “They’re authentic and stick to their own principles,” she remarked, reflecting on how they stay true to their values instead of imitating others.

Co-host Joy Behar shared her perspective, suggesting that Newsom might not be imitating Trump so much as engaging in humorous commentary. However, Haynes countered, saying, “People want substance and solutions, not just jokes.” Behar emphasized the need for a strong public response to effectively challenge narratives.

While Behar maintained that capturing attention was essential, Haynes advocated for showcasing leaders like Moore, who, as she described, speaks from the heart and acts without reliance on preparations or notes.

Since mid-August, Newsom’s press office on social media has gained traction for its Trump-esque style, even coining the nickname “America’s Favorite Governor” while engaging critics with light-hearted jabs.

Opinions among Democrats are divided; some appreciate his humor, while others fear it’s a dangerous tactic. Recently, former DNC chair Donna Brazile criticized Newsom’s methods on ABC, stressing the seriousness of current times. “We’re in a critical moment where people expect real leaders to step up,” she stated.

In contrast, comedian Bill Maher has praised Newsom’s social media engagement, referring to it as a clever way to navigate the current political landscape. He noted, “It’s fascinating to see Democrats stepping up in this way,” adding that the situation feels unprecedented.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Newsom’s office for further comments.
