Sarah Ferguson praises ‘brave’ Kate Middleton, King Charles for speaking ‘openly’ about cancer journeys

Sarah Ferguson praised Duchess Kate and Charles III's transparency about their cancer journey.

The Duchess of York, 64, who has publicly battled two types of cancer, expressed her admiration for the 42-year-old Princess of Wales and the 75-year-old monarch, who revealed their cancer diagnosis earlier this year. Buckingham Palace announced in February that Prince Charles had been diagnosed with a type of cancer and was undergoing treatment.

In March, Middleton revealed her cancer diagnosis and said she was undergoing preventive chemotherapy. In a heartfelt video shared earlier this month, the royal revealed that she is cancer-free after completing treatment. The mother-of-three admitted it had been an “incredibly tough” year for her family, but her battle with cancer has given her many opportunities, including “loving and being loved.” “It reminded me to be grateful for the simple but important things in life,” he said.

Middleton also thanked her supporters for their kindness and compassion and told those battling cancer that she will always be there for them.

On April 30, Prince Charles and his wife Queen Camilla visited Macmillan Cancer Center at University College Hospital. There he met with medical professionals and patients. The visit marked the monarch's first return to public royal duties after a three-month break during her diagnosis, treatment and recovery. On the same day, it was announced that Charles had become a patron of Cancer Research UK, the world's largest independent cancer research organization.

Ferguson has also been open about her health struggles since being diagnosed with breast cancer and skin cancer in the same year. In June 2023, Ferguson's representatives announced that the duchess had been diagnosed with “early-stage breast cancer” after a routine mammogram. Mr. Ferguson subsequently underwent a single mastectomy and breast reconstruction.

Duchess Kate spoke candidly about her diagnosis on social media and in an episode of her podcast Tea Talks, urging her followers to take care of their health.

Ferguson revealed in January that she had been diagnosed with melanoma after surviving breast cancer. During reconstructive surgery following a mastectomy, Ferguson had a mole removed and was subsequently examined. One of the moles turned out to be cancerous.

“Obviously a new cancer diagnosis is shocking, but I'm doing well and grateful for all the messages of love and support,” Ferguson captioned an Instagram post. “My experience is size, shape, color, texture And as for the appearance of new moles that could be a sign of melanoma, I urge anyone reading this to be diligent. ”

In May, Mr. Ferguson's daughter Princess Beatrice shared a positive update about her mother's health. The duchess has two daughters, Beatrice, 36, and Princess Eugenie, 34, with her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

“She's doing great,” Beatrice told ITV's This Morning. daily mail. “She had major health concerns last year, [she’s] Everything is clear now…I think she is doing well at 64 years old. She has been through a lot. I think she's really coming into her own right now. ”

In an interview with People magazine, Ferguson spoke about her current health situation and how the back-to-back health scares have affected her.

“I think the worries about health will never completely go away. With any type of melanoma, you don't really know where it is. As you look at it all, you certainly become more aware. ” she said. “It's been an extraordinary journey going through a mastectomy, and then you have to keep getting checkups, and you're wondering if it's going to happen again. It's a very delicate process.”

“I think it also gives you the empathy to understand the fragility of the heart,” Ferguson added. “Many young people are going through vulnerable and vulnerable times, whether it's cyberbullying or chronic cruelty from others. I think this should be addressed. I firmly oppose this action.”

“My health is very good right now, but I have to be a little more aware and not push myself too hard. That's what I do too.”
