Buffy the Vampire Slayer Revival: Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Return

Sarah Michelle Gellar is, without a doubt, back in the spotlight.

The first look from the much-awaited revival of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” shows the actress stunning in a red mini dress. This ensemble, which has a large rose detail at the waist, perfectly complements her bright red stilettos and a stylish Yves Saint Laurent handbag, making her return to the role of Buffy Summers feel seamless.

The 48-year-old actress sported her signature long hair and accessorized with eye-catching earrings. In additional shots captured in Los Angeles, Gellar was seen sipping coffee, navigating around the trailer, and engaging with the cast and crew of the upcoming Hulu series.

Gellar first portrayed this iconic character from 1997 to 2003 alongside notable co-stars, including the late Michelle Trachtenberg, Alyson Hannigan, and David Boreanaz.

Back in February, Hulu announced plans for the new untitled “Buffy” project, with Gellar taking up the lead role. She shared the news via Instagram, expressing that while there has been a lot of chatter, this was her first opportunity to communicate directly about it.

“So, you might have heard some news recently, but I realized you haven’t heard it from me,” she wrote, sharing a nostalgic photo from the original series.

Gellar mentioned that before director Chloe Zhao got involved, they were uncertain about how the show could make a comeback.

When they finally had their first meeting, Gellar described it as a “four-hour adventure.” She recalled, “We laughed, we cried, but mostly we talked about what this show means to us.” She noted that while there were no agreements reached at that meeting, the very act of continuing the conversation surprised her.

Looking back, Gellar reflected on the strong desire from fans to revisit “Buffy” and her universe, stating, “I’ve always heard the fans’ requests, but unless we were sure we could do it right, I couldn’t commit to it. It’s a long journey, and we’re not done yet.” She reassured fans, saying, “We will only do this show if we know we can do it right, and we are on our way.” Gellar concluded her post by thanking fans for their unwavering support, reminding them, “This is for you.”
