Sarah Shahi Discusses Spicy Scene with James Gandolfini

Sarah Shahi recently shared some intriguing insights about her intense scene with James Gandolfini from her time on The Sopranos. On the podcast “Boss Sticks,” she referred to the kiss they shared as “one of the best kisses” she’d ever experienced.

“There was this moment where he was, you know, quite hot…I thought, ‘How am I going to feel anything for this big, 47-year-old bald guy?'” she recounted, her surprise evident. “But it actually worked. It really did!”

Shahi, who had a brief appearance on the show, remembered a particular scene vividly. In it, Gandolfini sat on her lap as they pretended to forage for mushrooms before they kissed. “There’s this part where I’m picking mushrooms, and then we kiss. And after they yelled ‘cut,’ we just kept kissing,” she laughed, recalling how they needed to shoot the scene multiple times but ended up lost in the moment each time.

She elaborated, saying, “I don’t know if you recall the details, but he’s such a method actor. He wanted a prop for the scene, which turned out to be dried mushrooms. But he insisted on adding pepper or spice, something that would create a reaction when we bit into them.”

Reflecting on that experience, Shahi confessed they couldn’t help but continue kissing after the director called for a cut. “Every time they said ‘cut,’ we were still making out,” she explained, adding a hint of disbelief at how immersive the moment became.

In The Sopranos, Shahi portrayed Sonya Aragon, a stripper and college student involved with Christopher Moltisanti, played by Michael Imperioli. She made her appearance during Season 6 in 2007.

James Gandolfini, who played the iconic Tony Soprano, passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2013, while vacationing in Rome at the age of 51. An autopsy later revealed that he died of a heart attack.
