Savannah Guthrie’s Mother Reported Missing in Arizona
Savannah Guthrie has come forward with the distressing news that her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, is missing in Arizona. This announcement coincided with Savannah’s absence from Monday’s episode of NBC’s “Today,” where Shainelle Jones took her place alongside Craig Melvin.
A statement regarding Nancy’s situation was shared during the broadcast. “On behalf of our family, we want to express our gratitude for all the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support,” the statement read. “At this moment, our priority is the safe return of our beloved mother.” Savannah also emphasized their appreciation for the diligent efforts of law enforcement, urging anyone with relevant information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
A family spokesperson confirmed to the media that this is a missing persons case and noted that the family is collaborating closely with local law enforcement. They reiterated the plea for any information related to Nancy’s whereabouts.
Nancy was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence, just north of Tucson, around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, and she was reported missing the following day, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. Described as “in poor physical health,” she is considered a “vulnerable adult.”
During a press conference, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos mentioned that one of Nancy’s relatives called 911 to report her missing around noon Saturday. Unusually, homicide detectives have been involved in the search, indicating the seriousness of the case.
“We exerted every effort we could,” Nanos commented regarding the search operations. “I don’t need to explain how concerning this is. Typically, we do not send the sheriff out for missing persons, but this situation is quite worrisome.” He conveyed “grave concerns” about Nancy’s health.
Nancy has appeared on “Today” multiple times over the years since Savannah joined the program in 2011. Savannah’s recent absence from the show was due to a recovery period following vocal cord surgery. She made her return on January 23rd, sharing her emotional journey about her voice recovery, expressing gratitude for the support she received from her colleagues at NBC.
