Savannah James is having fun joking about her husband LeBron James and son Bronny being teammates on the Lakers.
Bronny, a 6-foot-2 guard from the University of Southern California, was selected by the Lakers on Thursday with the 55th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, all but ensuring that the 19-year-old rookie and the 39-year-old James will become the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA.
On his own Instagram Story, the James family elder reposted a now-viral meme posted by Steven Cheah of Barstool Sports that read, “LeBron James found out he’s been sleeping with his new teammate’s mom.”
Savannah added a blushing emoji and a crying-laughing emoji.
After Bronny went unselected in Thursday’s draft, the internet went into a frenzy.
The James family watched the draft with a small group of friends at a private location in New York.
According to videos on social media, a crying Savannah handed Bronny a Lakers hat after his name was called.
James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, and the couple’s son Bryce and daughter Juli were seen standing behind him clapping and cheering.
Bronny also seemed overwhelmed with emotion when his dream of playing in the NBA came true.
Savannah reposted several photos of Bronny on the court with James as a child when the NBA superstar was with the Cavaliers, along with a teary-eyed emoji.
James reposted a meme on his Instagram Story showing him and his oldest son together wearing Lakers uniforms.
The four-time NBA champion has until Saturday to choose between playing the final year of his contract with the Lakers or becoming a free agent.
James, who turns 40 in December, signed a two-year, $97.1 million contract extension with the Lakers in September 2022. The deal includes a player option worth $51.4 million for 2024-2025.
After the Lakers were traded to the Nuggets for a second straight offseason in April, James was coy about his playing future.
“To be honest with you, I don’t have an answer,” he said when asked about returning for his 22nd season in the NBA. “I haven’t really thought about it.”
James explained that he plans to meet with his agent, Rich Paul, and his family at some point to evaluate “what’s best for my career.”
“We’re going to cross that line when necessary,” he added.
Fans will get to see Bronny in uniform for the Lakers when the NBA Summer League kicks off in Las Vegas on July 8.
