New head coach Ben Johnson took over the Chicago Bears with a clear plan in mind. He wanted quarterback Caleb Williams’ protection to be bigger, stronger and overall better to protect his previous No. 1 overall pick.
When free agency began last month, Johnson added three new interior attack linemen to Jonah Jackson, Drew Dalman and Joe Sunny. It is one of the upgrades to go with the promising young right tackle Darnell Light.
On the 20th pick, the Bears were able to go in many directions. There are no “sad” screams following the haul of free agents.
But if you’re a windy City Gridiron Leicester Wiltvon, you believe that their offensive line overhaul will allow the bear to go further.
With SB Nation Community Mock Draft’s 20th pick, Ado has Wiltfong opted for Ohio offensive tackle Josh Simmons.
20.) Chicago Bears: Josh Simmons, Otto, Ohio
Wiltphone: Simmons would have pushed OT1 in this class if he hadn’t had his knee injury. Various reports show that he may be ahead of schedule and ready for training camp. Even if he doesn’t beat his start as a rookie, Ben Johnson will find a way to take him on the field.
analysis: Even after the Bears added three new offensive linemen during this year’s free agency, they continue to rebuild Caleb Williams’ offensive line, only to fall here due to injuries that made up a major part of the 2024 season. Otherwise, we might be talking about him as the top tackle in this draft class.
Simmons traveled from San Diego to Ohio, and mostly ran. He is extremely athletic and easy block of movement with fluid footwork, mirroring rushers to reach landmarks. In the run game, he slides to the second level and offers strong pop on double team blocks that helps to uproot the defender before wrapping another defender. He’s a fun watch in movies. Because it’s very clear how good he is and there’s a good chance he’s on the next level.
I love this pick for the Bears who are reaching Caleb Williams in their second year.
The remaining 5 players:
- Jahdae Barron of CB, Texas
- James Pierce Jr. Edge, Tennessee
- Luther’s Burden, WR, Missouri
- Boston College, Edge, Donovan Ezellak
- Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio
A good defender on the board, including a second cornerback at Baron. If your team needs an edge rusher, either Pierce or Ezellak is sure to be sure. The Steelers are next up and know how good the franchise appreciates its defence. It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest to see one of these guys who just named Go on my next pick!
