SC Lt. Governor Evette: Reasons my state requires a 'Palmetto Pen' facility for undocumented immigrants

For far too long, politicians in Washington and some radical activists have put the rights of violent, illegal immigrants above the safety of law-abiding Americans. It’s time for that to change.

If I become South Carolina’s next governor, I’ll work tirelessly to safeguard my community and businesses. That’s why I propose establishing a facility—what you might call a Palmetto prison—a secure space designed to hold violent and illegal immigrants who flout our laws and threaten our neighborhoods.

This would be like a South Carolina version of Alcatraz. It should clearly communicate that our state will not be a sanctuary for illegal immigration—ever.

South Carolina is committed to law and order. We back our law enforcement and strive to protect our families. Over the last six years, we’ve collaborated with Governor Henry McMaster to eliminate sanctuary cities.

Consider this Alcatraz version of South Carolina crocodile. It sends a clear message that our state is not a sanctuary for illegal immigration, and never will.

When President Biden loosened border restrictions, making all states border states, Governor McMaster and I took action while the administration hesitated. We stood firm, empowered law enforcement, and reinforced our laws. One square inch of South Carolina will not be a refuge for illegal immigrants.

Now that President Trump is back in office, we have a leader who prioritizes America. He focuses on securing our borders, building walls, and enforcing our laws. As governor, I’ll collaborate with Trump, ICE, and local law enforcement to detain and deport all illegal aliens in our state.

Palmetto Pen will be located in South Carolina, away from homes and schools. This facility will be fortified, safe, and specifically for violent illegal immigrants.

Palmetto Pen provides law enforcement with the tools they need to safely detain and retain these violent offenders. It eases the burden on our local and state prisons. It acts as a powerful deterrent. And most importantly, it saves lives.

There are several suitable locations in South Carolina for Palmetto Pen, especially former correctional facilities now sitting unused. The plan is straightforward: separate violent illegal immigrants from their families without burdening South Carolina taxpayers. Following Trump’s lead, we’ll strive to make this a reality.

Palmetto Pen gives law enforcement the resources to safely manage and hold these offenders. It alleviates the pressure on our correctional facilities and serves as a strong deterrent, ultimately saving lives.

The crux of the matter is this: the era of catch-and-release is done. No more selective approaches from career politicians in Columbia or Washington.

We’re aligning with Trump’s vision because that’s what South Carolinians deserve.
