Mr. Zhang’s friend, Mr. Liao, said Mr. Zhang was clearly being chased by a gang, so he agreed to help. taiwan news. Details of the gang said to be pursuing the man have not been released.

Authorities said Liao, who had known Zhang since their student days, took photos of the hours-long incident.

Newsweek reported that Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau said it had found several irregularities in Zhang’s story. Mr. Chan not only purchased insurance a few days before the incident, but also claimed that he suffered frostbite while traveling on a cold day.

According to the bureau, “Taiwan is a subtropical region. In flatlands, there are no known cases of severe frostbite requiring amputation due to the natural climate.”

The report said authorities investigated the weather on the day of the incident and found that the temperature was between 43 degrees and 62.5 degrees, too hot to cause frostbite.

The photos also suggested that Ms. Chan was not wearing socks when the injury occurred, leading authorities to conclude that this was “artificial.”

Mr. Zhang and Mr. Liao are both charged with insurance fraud and attempted insurance fraud.
