Plane Crash on Busy Georgia Road
Newly released video footage reveals the moment a small plane crash-landed on a bustling road in Georgia. Before the emergency unfolded, the pilot sent a poignant mayday message to his wife, expressing concern, “We won’t make it in time.”
Witnesses were left in shock as the single-engine aircraft suddenly descended onto Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville on Monday afternoon.
The 2010 Beechcraft Hawker G-36 lost control, hitting several cars at a traffic signal before finally coming to a stop in the lane.
Footage shared online indicated the plane began experiencing engine trouble shortly after taking off from Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport.
Pilot Thomas Rogers was flying alone with a student pilot when he made an emotional radio call to his wife and family just before the emergency landing.
“Mayday, mayday, mayday!” he was heard reporting in air traffic audio.
In a heartfelt message, he continued, “We are not going to succeed. Please tell my wife Molly, I love her… and I love my parents. I love them so much.”
Just moments later, another video captured the plane colliding with multiple vehicles during its emergency descent.
Fortunately, both Rogers and the student pilot emerged with only minor injuries.
“We lost an engine while taking off from Gainesville,” Rogers later explained to WAGA. “We tried to glide back, did everything according to the manual, but realized we were too far away to come back and went off the road.”
The Gainesville Police Department remarked on the miraculous nature of the landing, emphasizing the minimal damage caused. Lt. Kevin Holbrook noted, “The fact that this plane crashed and didn’t hit any utility poles or power lines and only hit three vehicles is absolutely amazing.”
Footage from the aftermath showed the aircraft, a 2010 Beechcraft Hawker G-36, positioned in the road, surrounded by bewildered bystanders.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.
