The Booby Prize
Let’s discuss what some are calling the Booby Prize.
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has recently taken on the Republican Party in a few different ways. But rather than receiving a trophy, she’ll get the chance to banter with younger, more unconventional men next week on “The View.”
It seems that Greene’s latest ideological shifts make her an intriguing conservative choice for a show that is becoming somewhat stagnant.
Co-host Joy Behar voiced her frustration about the show’s challenges in booking conservative guests, stating, “They’re scared of us.”
Right, Joy. Much like I’m “scared” of that Minecraft zombie at my door tonight asking for a Kit Kat.
Here’s a thought: perhaps “The View” could improve by engaging with guests who have differing opinions without treating them like candy bars—there’s enough room for more than one perspective.
Quite a Payday
Julia Roberts is brilliant. At least that’s what her agent insists.
Though she hasn’t been much in the spotlight lately, the Oscar-winning actress still managed to get studios to agree to pay her $20 million to star in “After the Hunt.”
In this Me Too-themed drama, Roberts portrays a professor caught between a trustworthy colleague (Andrew Garfield) and a gifted student (Ayo Edebiri) who alleges sexual assault by another faculty member.
Despite its release, the film only earned $9 million globally—just two weeks after it hit the theaters. With a reported production budget of $80 million, including Roberts’ hefty fee, it’s a tough pill to swallow.
If even the most cherished Oscar winners can’t guarantee a box office smash at 1995 prices in 2025, it raises questions about the Hollywood landscape.
Billion Dollar Baby
First things first, let’s address you, Billie.
Billie Eilish, known for her androgynous style, is making some bold statements against billionaires. As she accepted the “Innovator” award from Wall Street Journal Magazine, she spoke to a room filled with wealthy individuals, including billionaire Mark Zuckerberg.
At the moment, Eilish took a chance to lecture the ultra-rich, saying, “I love you all, but there are some people here who have way more money than I do. If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, donate money, you shortys.”
Let’s set aside any critiques about her financial naivety or the irony of her wealth. She just contributed to a significant donation aimed at fostering climate justice. I mean, wouldn’t it be something if she went all Joker and just set some cash on fire? At least it could inspire a new song…
Don’t Mess with Zoran
The rise of Zoran Mamdani? Uninteresting, to put it mildly.
The likely future mayor of New York has been associated with various controversial views—from being labeled a terrorism apologist to holding anti-Israel sentiments and promoting economic misconceptions. Nevertheless, political comedians will certainly have a field day with Mamdani.
It’s always the same expression. Pure hypocrisy. A sequel to “Escape from New York” feels imminent.
Yet, comedians hold back. Is anyone surprised? Recent studies show late-night humor tends to target everyone except Mamdani in this bustling mayoral race.
Kim K’s Moonshot
Reality stars say the wildest things.
Kim Kardashian sure makes headlines, especially with her choice in partners. Her collaboration with Kanye West left much to be desired.
However, she’s savvy when it comes to business; turning a scandalous sex tape into a reality empire took skill. Just don’t ask her to guide you through a history lesson immediately.
In her upcoming show “All’s Fair,” Kardashian co-stars with actress Sarah Paulson, and it seems they have quite a bit of off-screen chatter. Kardashian even shares her views on conspiracy theories, including her belief that the moon landing was staged.
For her “proof,” she pointed to a clip where Buzz Aldrin misheard a question. Maybe that’s her way of deflecting scrutiny. Or perhaps she should just hire Candace Owens for her next gig…
All “Fuck”
Comedy is making a comeback.
It seems the overly sensitive mentality is waning, and roasts are back in style. The recent “Naked Gun” reboot has intrigued audiences more than expected. On top of that, the trailer for an upcoming “Downton Abbey” parody looks promising.
“Fackham Hall” is set for release on December 5th, and it could very well pack in more laughter in its two minutes than any other recent comedy. Its biting humor coupled with the snobbish “Downton Abbey” setting makes for perfect satire.
At this rate, even Jimmy Kimmel may crack a smile before 2025 wraps up.
