Schedule for Social Security payments in September: When beneficiaries can expect their checks

Upcoming Social Security Payments for September 2025

Washington – A new calendar released in September indicates when millions of Americans will receive their Social Security payments. Here’s what recipients can expect regarding their checks this month.

Social Security Payment Schedule for September 2025

The Social Security Administration regularly issues monthly payments, but the exact dates vary based on the recipient’s birth date. For individuals who filed claims after May 1, 1997, Social Security benefits (including Retirement, Survivor, and Disability benefits) will arrive on either the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month.

Those receiving Supplementary Security Income (SSI), meant for individuals with disabilities or seniors with limited income, will typically be paid on the first day of the month. If that day happens to fall on a weekend or holiday, payments are usually processed on the preceding weekday.

It’s worth noting that beneficiaries who began receiving benefits before May 1997 have their own specific payment schedule.

Payment Timeline for September

The following list outlines when monthly payments will be distributed in September:

  • Beneficiaries who started receiving benefits by May 1997: September 3, 2025
  • Birthdays from the 1st to the 10th: September 10th (second Wednesday)
  • Birthdays from the 11th to the 20th: September 17th (third Wednesday)

Given that September 1st is Labor Day, SSI payments this month will be issued on the last weekday of August.

Reporting Missing Social Security Payments

If you haven’t received your payment as expected, the Social Security Administration advises contacting your bank or financial institution first.

If the issue persists, you can report a delayed, missing, or stolen payment by calling the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or visiting your local office. According to the agency, they will review cases and may replace payments if there’s a deadline for receipt.

This information is derived from the Social Security Administration’s guidelines concerning SSI and RSDI payments.
