Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Sunday on ABC's “This Week” that an independent commission should investigate the local and state response to Southern California's wildfires.
“The governor called for an independent investigation into why places like the Palisades didn't have enough water. There were also water pressure issues in Altadena, and I support that independent review,” Schiff said. I think we should go further and, frankly, have an independent committee review all of this. What did we do right in our response? What did we do wrong in that? .”
He added: “I'm very concerned that these false alarms, false evacuation alerts are being issued. People can't trust when they're told they need to evacuate, they need to evacuate. If there is a fire, it will not only seriously affect the whole operation, but people will ignore the alarm, putting themselves at risk and putting firefighters at risk. and civilians. So there's a lot to get through. I think we need an independent commission to look at it all, and beyond that, Jonathan, we need to get up to speed. We're going to have to rebuild with some sense. Once the flames are out, we need to clean up. We need to rebuild to move forward.”
