Schiff says 'of course' he’s concerned about Trump’s personal threats against him

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Sunday he was “of course” concerned about personal threats made against him by former President Trump in light of the Supreme Court’s Monday ruling that core presidential powers make the president immune from criminal prosecution.

“Absolutely,” Schiff told NBC News’ Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” when asked about President Trump’s accusations of fraud and treason against him and his call for members of the Jan. 6 select committee to be indicted.

“Anyone on his enemies list should be worried,” Schiff continued.

Schiff said he was particularly concerned about individual threats in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling that while the president has absolute immunity for actions taken within the scope of his primary official responsibilities, he has presumed immunity for all other official conduct.

Schiff said he was concerned about how the ruling would affect a hypothetical second term for Trump.

“What concerns me most is that what the court has just done is basically told Donald Trump he can do anything through the Department of Justice, he can do anything through the military. These are the core responsibilities of the president of the United States. Whatever he does, the president has unquestionable immunity. And beyond that, there is a strong, irrefutable presumption of immunity,” Schiff said.

The former president recently repeated his calls for indicting members of the committee that investigated the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, and ultimately recommended that the Justice Department indict Trump on multiple charges.
