Two Dead in Florida School Bus Crash

On Monday morning, a tragic multi-vehicle accident in Polk County, Florida, resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a high school student. Several others were injured in the crash involving a school bus and three other vehicles, prompting multiple transports to local hospitals.

Authorities held a news conference where they confirmed the fatalities and noted that one person remained in critical condition. The deceased included a tenth-grade student from Winter Haven High School, whose identity has not yet been revealed. The other victim was a passenger in a silver Jeep that collided with the bus.

According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, the accident occurred around 6:15 a.m. on a two-lane road. A white Chevy Malibu crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck the rear wheels of the school bus, causing significant damage.

The force of the impact caused the bus to swing into oncoming traffic, where it collided directly with the Jeep. Judd described the scene as a “horrible crash,” emphasizing the tragic loss of a young girl’s life.

At the time of the accident, the bus was carrying 37 students, along with the driver and the driver’s 9-year-old daughter. Reports indicated that between five to seven people were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries, and only one person was listed as in critical condition. The injured were transported by a combination of helicopters, ambulances, and personal vehicles.

Investigators stated that the driver of the Chevy Malibu is cooperating with the inquiry and has not faced arrest as of now. The individual mentioned they were en route to work when the crash occurred.
