School District Responds to Employee’s Arrest

A school district in New York has issued a statement following the arrest of a 22-year-old employee accused of sending a nude photo to a 14-year-old boy.

Earlier this month, the Kemun County Sheriff’s Office reported that Anamaria Milazzo, from Elmira, faced charges for distributing indecent materials to minors—her second such offense, classified as a Class E felony—as well as a misdemeanor for endangering a child’s welfare.

The sheriff’s office mentioned that Milazzo received a ticket for a future court appearance at the Wellsburg Village courthouse.

The investigation began on June 9 when a complaint was filed with the school’s resource officer, alleging that Milazzo had sent inappropriate content to minors. Over the course of three months, the Criminal Investigation Bureau revealed that Milazzo had indeed sent nude images to the 14-year-old.

Milazzo was arrested on June 16. Since December 2024, she had been employed as a teaching assistant.

Susan Ryder Uraco, the Chief Assistant District Attorney in Kemun County, explained that Milazzo was not jailed despite the felony charge due to New York’s bail reform laws.

The Southern Layers district released a statement saying that they became aware of the allegations from law enforcement and that Milazzo took a leave of absence following the incident. They mentioned she would resign and not return to the campus.

Given the ongoing nature of the investigation, the district indicated that they couldn’t provide more details but emphasized their commitment to student safety. They encouraged anyone with information related to the case to contact the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.

The district confirmed last week that Milazzo is a former employee at the Bose facility in Kemun County. However, they did not comment on when her employment ended or her specific role within the district.

The identity of the 14-year-old boy has not been disclosed, and it’s unclear whether he is a student at the same school Milazzo was associated with.
