The Long Beach Unified School District said Thursday that officials will implement state menstruation equity for 12th grade students for all laws for third-grade students.

The law was passed in 2023 and says that free menstrual products must be provided in all school bathrooms for girls, all gendered bathrooms, and at least one boy's bathrooms. Before the latest law, California was only requesting products for students in 6th through 12th grade.
“The dispenser is currently installed in the toilet at the school site. We appreciate your patience when completing this process,” the letter read. “We also encourage families to talk to their children about the proper and safe use of menstrual products at home.”
The goal of the bill was to ensure “period equity” between students.
The issue is harmful in the presidential election when Democrat ticket critics laughed at Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Waltz of Minnesota and provided tampons in the bathroom of a boy at a state school. It became a topic of discussion.
