Arrest in Child Exploitation Case
A private school employee in South Florida has been taken into custody on charges of possessing child sexual abuse material. This material was reportedly gathered from minors whom he allegedly enticed into sharing inappropriate photos and videos online.
Federal agents arrested 26-year-old Evan Michael Sands, who worked at Randazzo School in Coconut Creek, located just north of Fort Lauderdale. He faces multiple charges for allegedly using Discord and Roblox to acquire sexually explicit content.
The investigation was reportedly prompted by a tip received via the Discord messaging platform. Authorities learned about two videos depicting sexual abuse that were shared through Discord, involving girls believed to be around six years old. These videos were allegedly found on Sands’ account.
Following this, federal agents sought a search warrant for his residence in Tamarac, where they discovered that Sands had allegedly engaged in numerous conversations with underage individuals.
According to reports, Sands, who used the username astraldrag0n#0 on Discord, had multiple interactions with children, some of whom were under the age of 12, in which he solicited sexually explicit images. It’s concerning to think about how easy it is for such interactions to happen online.
The school has only identified Sands as an “employee” in their communications with the media.
Sands also reportedly sent explicit videos to minors, often identifying himself with specific personal details. During questioning, he allegedly admitted to sharing such content on Discord and luring children by offering them Robux, the virtual currency from Roblox, since 2021.
Currently, he is held at the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail, facing two federal charges for possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, alongside one count of enticing a minor for unlawful sexual activity.
Randazzo School plays a role in education from kindergarten through 12th grade and is described as “family-owned.” School administrators stated that Sands “will not be returning” and indicated that based on information from U.S. Marshals, there’s “no evidence that any of our students were involved or affected.”
Concerns about sexual misconduct in U.S. schools have surged recently. Reports suggest it’s prevalent among educators, affecting not only teachers but also administrators and different school staff. Surprisingly, even though sensational stories often focus on young female teachers and their relationships with male students, studies show that a substantial majority of offenders are actually male educators or staff.
